A Part of the International Effort to Preserve Vehicles by Shelby American

The Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club (LASAAC) is not the only automobile club which brings together the Shelby American owners and admirers. On the contrary, it is just a small part of a much wider international effort to promote and preserve the vehicles designed and influenced by Carroll Shelby, of course, with an emphasis on the masterpieces built between 1962 and 1970. And the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) is the leader of this world-wide effort with regionally-based affiliates such as the LASAAC all over the United States and abroad.

About the SAAC

As mentioned above, the SAAC is the biggest automobile club dedicated to the Shelby American. But it is also the oldest organisation for Shelby owners and enthusiasts in the world. It was founded as early as 1975 and initially focused exclusively on Carroll Shelby-designed vehicles. From the beginning on, the SAAC established itself as an authority for Shelbys and Cobras, providing its members with valuable information on all kinds of things including history, design, development, engineering, etc. as well as offering tips and advice on how to keep the state-of-the-art performance cars in top shape. As the interest in Shelbys and Cobras continued to grow, so did the SAAC members. Just like the LASAAC, the SAAC is open to everyone who are passionate about the iconic vehicles. Whether they own one or not is irrelevant.

Getting Bigger and Better

Interestingly, the interest in Carroll Shelby-designed and inspired vehicles didn’t fade away as the famous automotive designer ceased building them in 1970. On the contrary, as the time went by, the interest in Shelbys and Cobras started to grow and with it, the SAAC. At the same time, the organisation also stepped up the effort to provide even more information, advice and guidance on the Shelby American vehicles, especially through its magazine The Shelby American which has been published ever since 1976. But it also expanded its focus on high performance Ford cars and the later Shelby GT cars including Griffith, Galaxy, Comet and others. Nevertheless, the original Shelbys have remained the SAAC’s focus to this day.

To further promote preservation and restoration of the Shelby American cars, the SAAC also regularly holds national conventions (since 1976) plus a wide range of other Shelby-centred events. Since 2007, the organisation also runs an online forum where the Shelby American cars owners and enthusiasts can discuss a variety of topics and find an ample information just about everything concerning the iconic cars, their designer, history, maintenance and more.
